Vaping Website Journey-What Happened Next

Posted by Peter Nelson on

So the website is ready to go live, it is functional but not pretty, however I knew when I first launched it nobody would see it as it would need to be registered with google and bing.

So I launched it.

The first problem I encountered was the domain name. I registered it through but I then transferred it to my broadband supplier for hosting, BIG mistake. I could get the two domains working ( and but not at the same time. Every time I changed a setting it would activate one but knock the other one out. On top of that it could take up to 24 hours for a change to take effect. So every time I made a change to one of the settings I had to wait to see if it was correct or not. In the end I had Shopify support on live chat and PlusNet on the phone and I was the go-between!!

The next problem I encountered in the first few days was finding a card payments provider. It didn't occur to me that merchant account providers would simply put vaping under the heading of tobacco retailer. As a result I quickly found that providers wouldn't provide me with a merchant account due to the website being a vaping website, e-cigarettes and e-liquids are just tobacco products as far as they are concerned. Believe me I tried them all Worldpay, Sagepay, Stripe and many more. They all turned me down purely because they wouldn't provide a service for vaping products.

Luckily I had held a business account with Paypal for many years and they were willing to provide me with full merchant services for the website, though they are a little more expensive than other providers, but I had little choice in the matter. Now the website is setup to take Paypal, Major Cards and even Bitcoin!!

In the meantime I am working all day every day tweaking and perfecting the website. All I need now is some traffic.
